Patient Recruitment Case Study: Chronic Skin Conditions

Imaging and Data Collection in Participants with Atopic Dermatitis, Hidradenitis Suppurativa, or Psoriasis and in Non-immuno-dermatologic Participants

THE CLINICAL TRIAL
Atopic dermatitis, hidradenitis suppurativa, and psoriasis are chronic skin conditions that affect a significant portion of the population globally. These autoimmune conditions cause a considerable impact on individuals’ quality of life, both physically and mentally. Patients often experience recurrent flare-ups that are painful and uncomfortable with visible skin manifestations, despite various treatment options. Because there are many different skin conditions, and the manifestations may look different on different skin colors, diagnosis can be difficult, add further to patients discomfort.

 

THE PROJECT
For this project, the Science 37 team was conducting a study testing an artificial intelligence (AI) model for assessing disease severity and developing image-based dermatology endpoints and biomarkers to potentially facilitate the diagnosis of these skin conditions. Testing of the AI model required images of afflicted and healthy skin, so Science 37 tasked Stark Raving Health to develop a webpage and informational video to educate participants about collecting images of their bodies.

Video Production

An effective and informative recruitment video that clearly explained the participation requirements and study benefits was essential to build trust with potential participants. Additionally, sharing vulnerable images could cause concern among participants, so the video emphasized confidentiality to put them at ease.
